NEW YORK — Black River Paintballs, the newest team in the New Orleans, Louisiana, paintball community, is set to be inducted into the 2018 All-America Paintball League.
The team announced Monday that they have secured an All-American paintball spot on the 2018 National Championship squad, and are set to compete at the tournament.
BlackRiverPaintball.com “We have been honored to be part of the New York City Black River community for many years, and were honored to receive the 2018 USA Paintball Team Award,” Black River coach Aaron Cipriano said in a press release.
“The 2018 All America Paintball Association (PAAPA) All-AAC team will be the most prestigious honor in the national paintball scene and we can’t wait to be a part of this year’s event.”
The Black River paintball team has been around since 2009 and has competed in multiple competitions, winning a variety of titles.
The New Orleans team is the only team to compete in the tournament annually since 2014.
Cipriane said the Black River team is not expected to play in the 2018 tournament, as the organization is still working on an all-new lineup.
“It’s still not official at this point,” he said.
“We’re working on it, but we haven’t got anything officially signed yet.”
This marks the first time Black River has been invited to compete as a team.
The 2018 Paintball Hall of Fame has made a point to include the Black Rivers in their inductions, and Cipria said he was excited to get on the team.
“The first time we saw them was at the All-Star weekend, and it was just crazy,” he told the AP.
“I’m so excited to be here and be a member of this great team.”
